The Old Spice image’s purpose is to be an advertisement for the brand Old Spice’s cologne for men for posters, magazine ads, and online graphics. The image is to create interest and intrigue the audience through the image manipulation using the obscenity of the scene, The image displays the “face of Old Spice” who seems to be covered in snow, as if a mountain with miniature trees, and snowboarders and skiers flowing off his body and snow with the tagline “Become one of the freshest smelling places on earth.” The image was a play on the idea of the tagline to show that using Old Spice literally turns you into the freshest smelling place on earth.
The techniques used to create the image would be using a creative package such as photoshop to use many different images and manipulate them by using masks, filters, and using the tools provided to realistically collage everything together to create the end product. The image would have been created by getting the image of the man on a blank or green backdrop, then isolated from the background to create his own layer, then using different stock textures and images to mask and place onto his body and using brushes to create realistic looking edges. Also transforming the other images such as the people and trees to be scaled down.
I was drawn to this image because of the realistic nature and comedy aspect. In context the image is clever and meaningful as it advertises a "fresh" smelling body wash and uses a frost covered man to dictate that. I personally thought the usage of the imagery is very clever and creates depth in the image through the thought process.
The image above is by a hobby artist on Deviantart username "Lowrider" - the image was created as a hobby practice piece for fun but has potential to be an advert, for billboard posters, online graphics, or even magazine viewpoint. The image was created to create interest and intrigue the viewer.
The techniques used for the image were most likely using photography of the model and the landscape, and removing the background using the various ways that it can be done depending on what the original background was, The vignette effect of shadows on the right hand side could have been created through using blending modes and opacity control. Also the shadow of the girl could have been created using the pen tool to create a vector shape and blended into the back.
This image draws me in using the vignette, as it creates a focus point and hierarchy towards the highlights in the image. The use of the rule of thirds also gives the image an extra boost up to drawing attention to itself. The image itself is a beautifully done and I think it serves its purpose well.
This image was created by Phlearn - A youtube channel run by Arron Nace a retouching artist and photographer who created the platform Phlearn to teach people Photography and Photoshop from his experience. The image is a hobby piece but can be used as a stock image, promotional material or even some kind of "fun" billboard image. This image was created to teach, and please.
The techniques used in this image are of masking and colour adjustment, as well as transforming, pattern creation and also compositing, layering and blending. Lots of these techniques can be seen throughout the image working harmoniously with each other .
This image is very unique out of the four, because of its context. It uses a bold opposites theme, "Sky and Dirt" which quickly creates focus onto the image. I think the image is very beautifully composited and creates the contrast well allowing
This image was created by David Iwane a designer, photographer and illustrator who works with double exposures to create visually simulating images created from sceneric landscapes and a subject either being a human being or a animal. The images created are usually used as prints that are sold on or as digital photography pieces. So the images are really created to be solds as artwork.
The techniques used in this image to create the double exposure technique would be to use images by layering them and then creating masks on the shadows and some midtones on your subject with there is he landscape underneath and that can be done in detail to how you want it further on. This would usually involve the colour selection tool, Quick masks, and brushing. Also with the background being layering with textures and some brushwork to create shadows.
This image stands out to me due to inverse selection. A plain grunge background alongside an illustration of a stag filled with an image of a landscape. The "double exposure" effect within illustrations works very well in my opinion and I believe is a very strong beautiful look.
RAG - (G1) - I understood the activity to create and adapt to blogger and analyse photo manipulated images to the best of my ability.
You have found and discussed three interesting images here, with some excellent detailed analysis of potential creation techniques, applying key terminology. Please make sure you are referencing your sources. In order to progress try to read your blog post out-loud before publishing. This should help to ensure that your writing is coherent, using the same tense (past/present) consistently and has the correct punctuation applied throughout. For example is there another word you could use for 'through' in the first paragraph and 'then' in the second? Also, what is your personal opinion on the images discussed, why were you drawn to them, and could any of them relate to the current brief?
